But about every 2-3 years it needs a boost in its freon? or whatever gas they are using in AC systems now.

"It went against what I heard back when I learned how to drive." Really? There was a time when it was true. But, that hasn't been the case for decades. You'd think such stale information would eventually fade away, but I suppose that isn't the case. Compressors and aerodynamics are much better these days. Except for maybe a Hummer which must have an awful drag coefficient...
