Re: 8 core Larrabee may be faster than 790GX, but Larrabee is a 2010 product while 790GX has just launched. 2 years ago the comparable ATI IGP was the Radeon X1250. It has about 1/10th the performance of the 790GX...

Wrong. The X1250 is the same as the 690G. The 780G is about 2-3 times faster than the 690G, and the 790GX is only going to be about 25% faster than the 780G. There almost certainly will be no 10x improvement, and there is no trend that indicates a 10x improvement in integrated graphics performance every two years.

Perhaps you can explain why AMD is claiming a 35% improvement in graphics performance over Puma instead of 900+%.

It seems pretty clear that AMD hasn't had a clue what is going on with Fusion. It was just a couple months ago they were claiming Fusion graphics performance would only be 35% faster than Puma. With all of the 40-nm RV810 talk lately it appears AMD has gone back to the drawing board on Fusion once again.

Re: Of course as Larrabee firms up over the next two years, those estimates can be far off in either direction.

NO way, I think you're onto something, Pete. How can Intel hope to beat AMD's integrated graphics solution with Larrabee? There's just no way it's possible, even with thousands of watts and millions of millimeter squared.

ATI is just that far ahead of Intel in innovation. You said so yourself. It's insurmountable. AMD will be at least 10x faster than Larrabee in terms of integrated graphics, and by then the high end graphics cards will be at least 1000x faster.

Maybe several petaflops by then. Intel may find their entire supercomputer designs going over to AMD graphics cards. They're just that unbelievably fantastic. I imagine AMD stock will also be at least $1000 per share by then. You should start loading up now. Sell some blood if you have to.
