Wbmw:

Its no different with Atom. Intel puts out typical TDP, not the worst case TDP that AMD did with Geode. And you still didn't add in the 5.5W typ that is used by Intel's chipset to match what's on Geode. You are comparing an Apple (CPU core) to a Fruit Basket (SOC like Geode).

Besides you don't need PCIe for doing web browsing, surfing or checking your email.

As for someone not being able to design a laptop with Geode and no chipset just go look at OLPC or PIC with a passive LCD as output. BTW the Geode has TV NTSC composite output on die. Most LCD TVs still include that as an option, you know the yellow RCA jack that has been the standard for decades? And for embedded type applications DDR is still quite cheap being soldered directly on the tiny MB. There $10 buys you 256MB more than enough to run Linux or MSCE.

If you want all of those extra creature features, you are not just browsing the web or looking at your email. Frankly I think the Atom is underpowered for that extra stuff. Minimum for me would be a Geode NX-1500 or 1GHz Sempron. The crappy Intel IGP on the Atom chipset isn't fast enough either.
