any further resistance by georgia, if supported by team usa and nato, will likely result in helicopter downings over mesopotamia and aircraft not rising over afghanstan this is what the unthinking haims of this world are missing typical imperial hubris and bully over reach even as georgia made an obviously large and soon to be more costly if not altogether fatal strategic error

The major danger in this conflict aside from the obvious is the new invented claim of Russia for starting a war. Russia sent troops and tanks into the disputed region the next day in what it said was a response to Georgia's assault on Russian citizens and peacekeeping forces. The direct result would be that most former USSR countries who disengaged from Russia could be conquered anew as in those places are scores of Russian who where resettled under Stalin, Brejniev et al – which in other words may mean that present day Russia under Putin will go out and conquer all the former communist countries from the Danube to the Amur at will, - just because their Russian passport carrying citizen are mistreated and must obey the laws of the land they live in. Moldova (which before was part of Romania) could be next as there are hostilities around the Dniester river region where many ethnic Russian reside same would be to eastern Ukraine, the Baltic State and all the “Stans” next will come the former Warsaw pact nations. I absolutely don't see this as an issue involving the US electoral cycle. There is too much uncertainty. Oh!Bummer looks good now but there are no guarantees. He will increasingly be seen as an empty suit traipsing through the daisies while mouthing vague but unsubstantial pronouncements, all of which I think will cut his lead. McCain's campaign is not being run by anyone very smart, either. He'll be seen as more of the same-same A horse race with a razor thin photo-finish, IMO, as usual. That being the case, the Georgians betting their national future on the resolution of the elections one way or the other is crazy, IMO.
