The Turks being Muslims are not much likely to move closer to Russia. They have seen enough of Russian counter Muslim action in Tchechenia to even consider that.

G8, olympics, international trade etc. These are real issues for russians just as much as gas cutoff would be for euros. Putin made his point in a heavy handed way. US cant be building missile defense without at least consulting russia, nor can we pushing nato in georgia where a chunk of the country is not really part of it. Democracies on russias borders need to contend with the bear. Doesn that limit their freedom as a nation? Yup. Can it be any other way? Nope. Accept the limitations and build a paradise at home for your people. If you are no threat to Russia, she will leave you alone. Stay away from the cubs.
