well when a company shows improving results then the stock usually goes up.

also when its major competitor (nvidia) is screwing up this also gives an opportunity for price appreciation.

the graphics market for gamers is fickle and they will buy the best of breed.

if ati has best of breed they will be able to capture share.

this is less true in cpu's as the branding of intel, corporate buyers etc puts a cap on what market share amd can win.
