My wife taught English to foreigners and met a number of Georgian ladies. They had extraordinary admiration for men who had guns.
They had contempt for those who didn't. Something magnificent to them about armed men.
To make it short, it's a gun culture. Not though the Abhazians are civilized either; same attitudes. In 1993 the Russians gave them guns and the Abhazians went on a killing rampage, chasing all the Georgians in Abhazia away.
