Well look at the bright side of things....We have paid in full cars....large and comfortable, and get 18-21 mpg....They were getting 20-23 mpg before ethanol.... If we buy a new one now....we
1) Cost ourselves $25-35K for a car we don't want nor need right now....

2) We would, by buying a new car, use LOTS of energy while the company is manufacturing that new car...(bending and shaping the metal, nuts, bolts, etc)

3) We would gain maybe 8-10 mpg more than now, unless we buy a Prius....We can buy LOTS of gas for the difference in cost per gallon, and a new car payment...

and 4) Where would our old car go? To the landfill? or to someone else to enjoy??

He's looking at gas this way....

The difference between what we spend and what we would spend if it were a Prius, is maybe about $1.00-1.25 per gal.
The Prius gets about 50-60 mpg.
We only drive one car about 15,000 miles per year, and 12,000 for the other one per year.

He wants to be comfortable in his dotage, he says.....so by the time we really need to get a new car, there will be a good green one available, and the price should be more reasonable by then.

Unless of course,
Algore gets ahold of the taxes.....
