The Indians showed the Pilgrims(?) how to plant a fish in the hill with the corn or crop for fertilizer. Everyone learns this in grade school. What it really shows is the Indians knew that they had to cultivate or live in small bands of nomads forever. The Indians did it in a simple way maybe because they didn't have good strains of crops or a good way to clear the land. Given another one or two hundred years things may have turned out different.
