"That is your opinion. I think multinational corporations ARE responsible too for the pollutions in China!" Yiwu, that is my opinion because I think China controls China. If you disagree, then you are saying that China is controlled by foreigners. You can't have it both ways -- all China does that is good is China's own doing, but all that is bad is caused by others. Yes, some of the pollution comes from foreign factories; most comes from domestic manufacturing (even if destined for export). And ultimately, if people are bought off or not, who is responsible for enforcing the laws in China? China, I hope you think. And if so, then China is also responsible if they choose not to enforce the laws -- to look the other way, to put their heads in the sand, to believe the ends justify the means. Those that lead in that fashion again are responsible because they are choosing that path of inaction. It is not being forced on them (e.g. as it was by the Japanese in the 30s and 40s -- that actually was by force). DO you really that in this day and age that anybody could force their will on China? I do not, and so I will continue to disagree with your viewpoint of foisting blame on others.

Power is mostly an illusion: nobody can control much for long. But think of this: I could have gone to see the Olympics last week. Most people in China were under intense scrutiny if they had such a desire and the means. Imagine if the Olympics were in LA instead. Again, I could easily have gone. Just buy a ticket and go. How many Chinese with the money would have been permitted? For all your disparagement about freedoms in the US, which have eroded in the past 6 years, we still have far more real freedoms that most. For example, we can bitch about it on these boards, can't we? <g>
