Sure, this is part of the process and we all expect it.

But he was far to the left to begin with. The abortion position for example, was the most extreme I've ever heard of -- actually voting to deny care to a child who survived a botched abortion. He was, supposedly, the only person who didn't support the measure.

Borking Roberts is another pretty big deal. While he wasn't the only one who did it, it certainly indicates someone who supports activist judges which is an inherently liberal position. I don't believe it was a partisan decision based on his explanation; it was an ideological one.

He has definitely moved far toward the right now but you cannot possibly believe these positions are ones he will stick with given the extent of his waffling.
