The rhetoric belies this, but it is true nonetheless. The underlying problem is that we have ceased being honest with ourselves about what we really want and can realistically expect from life on this Earth. We have been consumed by our toys, and so we think toy-like thoughts when it comes to governance. We are unserious, and we have forgotten the alternatives. Which is what I saw on display this evening.
