I think we're talking past one another. You see the system as fixable, the state as capable of redemption, and I do not. I look at these politicians, and observe trapped little men, constrained by their many conflicting allegiances, confounded by their own sense of self-importance. They think that they are so powerful that they can will a brand new world into being. Probably they do not believe what they say, but people want to hear it, so they say it. Without the adulation of the people, a politican is about as useful as a retired stud horse.

When Summer dies and becomes Autumn, do we call it decadence? Civilizations and cultures have seasons, and death is part of life.

"last 8 years have been great" Only a sadist would make a statement like that. Heck, I"m sure Buffett had a great 8 years and Cheney certainly did, but that don't mean the majority of the nation did.
