The type of teenage pregnancy Bristol Palin is experiencing is the kind I saw a fair bit of myself when I was a teen. Girl either has a steady boyfriend or hopes to keep her boyfriend steady, they have sex, and either don't use birth control or don't use it "just once." Girl gets pregnant and boy either takes off or stands by her and they get married. If he takes off, she has the baby and gives it up for adoption. (Back then you rarely raised the child alone, and abortionists were rare.) If they get married, he gets work in their home town, she has another kid or two, then she goes back to work when the kids are in school. They are helped by their families. Often they are still married 30 years later. This scenario would not be familiar to the elite.
