Don't the Calif schools teach about condoms ?

California has the second highest teen pregnancy rate in the nation. One hundred twenty-five pregnancies per 1000 women aged 15-19 occurred in 1997. The national rate is ninety-seven per 1000 women. [22]

>>So, I don't believe in pounding the kid.<<

I agree. She's kinda the tragic figure in all this. Imagine getting dragged through all this media circus at 17 years old and 5 months pregnant. Did her mother not expect that to happen?

Actually, abstinence does work....when it's used. -g-

How can you promote abstinence when the entire society is built on seeking pleasure? When nearly every TV show, celebrity, movie, video, etc. is keyed on being sexually exciting?

So the "problem" is one of hypocrisy, not pills. Then again, this is to be expected from a country that touts itself as peace loving while forging the greatest military empire in the history of the world.

KT,

My points exactly.

Why the hell the media is not picking up on the abstinence education policy of the GOP? This is a proof positive that abstinence only education won't work.

Another point here, the Governor and her husband support and are proud of their daughter's decision to have the child (in lieu of abortion is implied here). If that is not a tacit approval that a woman has a right to choose, what is?

KT,

There is nothing wrong with promoting abstinence, while simultaneously educating about birth control, disease etc...

IMO, teaching and promoting abstinence and also teaching about birth control is superior than just doing the latter. The problem with some on the left is that they more or less throw in the towel on trying to change the values of society in ways that will produce superior results and practically promote poor behavior. The problem with the religious right is that won't accept the way the world is.
