There is/was nothing to be gained... every dollar spent and every life wasted is not productive.

There was A LOT on the line to be lost at the time you advocated capitulation. How much? A lot more that was spend fighting to date.

It was for sure very expensive and fought on many false assumptions but the gang that couldnt shoot straight. But now its clear that something might be gained albeit at very high cost. To quit now when things are moving in the right direction in iraq and al quaeda has been stopped in its spiritual homeland while still trapped and hemmed in in the hills of South Wahiristan could be a cataclysmic mistake. Now we can contain em in SW and get some sort of hybrid iraq up and running as a positive example for the middle east. No sure thing but worth the try.
