So you don't think McCain would be interested in running for re-election?

If he wins in 2008 by appealing to the troglodytes he isn't going to throw them under the bus prior to the 2012 election.

Assuming McCain doesn't just exile Palin to the Old Executive Office Building, then she will be in the room on many issues, as the spokesman for her wing of the party and the heir apparent. I could see her having that impact in several areas, even if she isn't the strongest in the room on the details.

Just finished Kaplan's "Daydream Believers" about the impact of those who believe in various causes too much on foreign policy.

>>But I hate to embarrass you by reminding you that it's McCain who is the candidate for President. <g> And that Vice Presidents historically have been inconsequential except when there is a tie vote in the Senate. They have been a succession of either dolts or non-dolts whose talents have been hidden under the proverbial bushel basket. The only practical reason why Palin could reasonably be of any greater interest is that McCain is a bit older than usual. <<

Karen -

McCain is not only older than usual, and in fact older than any previoius candidate for President. He is also a former POW. Former POWs have well documented chronic health problems and much shorter life expectancies than the population at large.

The chances of McCain dying before his first term is complete are good. This makes Palin, medieval throwback that she is, a more important issue.
