Yes, those are the same commentators who gushed about the speech of Palin; a sarcastic, mocking, biting speech that will, in my view, simply remind people how petty politics have diminished our democracy. I think they got it wrong both times. The partisans liked Palin, the independents and moderates, I believe, will reject her approach. Those same independents will be drawn toward the approach that McCain's speech exemplified and toward the man who said, "They broke me" when discussing his time in captivity and who congratulated Obama. That's why I think McCain's speech will turn out to be a great plus in influencing the critical swing votes and that Palin's speech won't. Unfortunately for McCain, and fortunately for us, that snapshot of McCain at the convention won't hold. He's talking right now and he sounds over the top aggressive. He just can't hold on to the convention speech note he hit and his choice of a right wing novice with a little too much nastiness for vice president was a foolish choice. Ed
