I didn't call it stupid, I said it isn't a tax cut, it really is government spending.

Saying it was Nixon's idea is unlikely to win my support. Nixon was really bad in terms of economic ideas. But it wasn't really Nixon's idea (although he did consider it). Friedman was a big supporter of the idea before Nixon entertained it, and others supported the idea as well. It wasn't really from Nixon.

Friedman's idea was to have a "negative income tax" instead of other social spending, not so much in addition to it.
