While not particularly on the subject of charitable giving:

From the Candidates 2006 Tax Returns:

John McCain: (married filing separately)
Taxable Income: 215,000
Income Taxes: 69,000
Effective Tax Rate (calculated): 32.1%

Barack & Michelle Obama: (married filing jointly)
Taxable Income: 827,000
Income Taxes: 263,000
Effective Tax Rate (calculated): 31.8%

Cindy McCain: (Married filing separately)
Taxable Income: 5,493,000
Income Taxes: 1,722,000
Effective Tax Rate (calculated): 31.3%

Interesting how the effective tax rate goes down as the income goes up, eh? If we added back social security taxes, the Obamas & Senator McCain would really looked hosed (depending on how much of their income was subject to FICA)
