The FNM and FRE common stock investors will get toasted. The intervention is solely to shore up all the mortgage bonds they sold around the world, and probably prop up the preferred stock that many US banks hold chunks of. This is all about forestalling another possible domino-like string of confidence failures.

And those others are the 401K folks like me and possibly you. I wonder what the Bush gang is doing in its dying months. It is like a retreating military breaking down the infrastructure in its path. And it amazes me there are still some people who think flags, abortion, military serve etc. are the frontline issues in the Presidential elections. McCain has recently started uttering the word "change" much, much after Obama said those words. If this is how long it takes McCain to understand and then acknowledge and subsequently embrace the issue of "change", go figure how slow he is in his understanding the com;ex issues of the economy.
