The trouble with Obama is that he did not listen to the polls: 75% of Americans wanted to drill offshore; millions of people voted for Hillary and she won most big states; and most Dems wanted Hillary as VP not Biden/Kean/Bayh (BKB Who?). Otherwise, he'd be leading comfortably by now...personal factors notwithstanding. The GOP knew that Hillary was the one to beat, at least that's the strong impression I get from our local neocons when they celebrated her loss.

Don't get me wrong, I love those tax cuts <g>. But life isn't always about money and I think these last 25 years have had to much focus on materialism. That's the message I hear from Obama and I like it.

McCain, it seems, has not finished debating with himself.

McCain targets GOP and Bush along with Obama
By TERENCE HUNT – 3 hours ago

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Barack Obama isn't John McCain's only opponent. Sometimes McCain sounds like he's running almost as hard against President Bush and the Republican Party as he is against Obama, his Democratic rival for the White House.

The GOP is guilty of indulging in a spending spree of taxpayers' money, McCain laments. They haven't solved huge problems such as the looming insolvency of Social Security and Medicare, passing on huge IOUs and perplexing issues to future generations instead of fixing them as they had promised. He doesn't name Bush but the implication is clear: It happened on his watch and he signed bills that made the deficit soar.

Just as an FYI. Was speaking to my Berkeley college roomate. He now heads up a group at Goldman Sachs IB. He's torn, as am I, but I can at least rationalize his position.

The guy makes 8 figures. He thinks Palin is an absolute idiot and totally unqualified. He thinks that Obama is thoughtful and intelligent.

However, he's probably going to vote McCain purely on the tax issue. I understand and I can't blame him.

A 65% top tax bracket when you roll in state, payroll, local, etc is scary.

We both asked ourselves, why couldn't McCain have picked somebody normal?
