If the author just omitted a factor of 1000 and subsequently draws wrong conclusions (unsuitable for SSDs) I also don't believe the rest of the article...

WRT SPSN going back into NAND I remember Cambou saying SPSN decided not to compete against NAND about a year ago. So obviously SPSN changed its mind in between then and now.

SPSN wants to have the fastest NAND flash and that will be a SLC device. From my point of view the density is far more important then the speed. Surely MLC devices have an order of magnitude less program/erase cycles than SLC. On the other hand the size of devices like SSDs is growing far more than an order of magnitude in the next few years. So at a given bandwidth of a huge device the single MLC block is used far less than a single SLC block in a smaller device. The effect is more than overcompensated so that with increasing size the manufacturers have headroom enough to even implement parallelization (like raid 0) to increase the bandwidth.

In the end of the day a device built with the new high speed SPSN SLC chips won't get the crown for the fastest device wrt to bandwidth.
