Very doubtful that a legal challenge would work.

But the Senate Finance Committee has to be royally pissed off. Paulson lied like a rug salesman to them not very long ago when he said he didn't see any need to take action any time soon.

If I were Sen. Dodd and Co., I'd haul him up to Capitol Hill, give him a well-deserved horse-whipping.

US need to uphold world's reserve currency. It is part of the job. Think like the colonial empire which needs to show the subjects their place. Thus the colonial master not muster weakness. Must show solidity. Must display certainty.

After Fannie and Fred, noting that GM got $25bn, expect some more to come hat in hand for some moolah. They know the nature of the colonial master...
