That's true... you have to be very careful with body language, knowing someone else is wrong or lying doens't give licence to be condescending. That creates defensiveness and nothing ever gets done. OTOH you have to be firm... you can't let people keep doing dumb stuff. Dem's were way too weak on resisting GWBush's compulsive move into Iraq with no support from allies that live much closer to the "danger". Then way to weak when he changed the whole reason to stay there, again, and again.

I still roll my eyes when Bush Jr. speaks.

I think Gore expected that the voters were reasonably aware of the situations that were being debated. If so, they wouldn't be worried if Gore rolled his eyes, coughed, or peed his pants. Republican voters are just like the O.J. jury, they have about a two minute attention span.
