bluezuu;

I do not care how impressive the proposal, I would prefer if fed govt does nothing more with education

I agree. We are past the point of promising to special interest groups. McCain - as he did on energy - is winning this issue too by saying no to pork (meaning government spending). The next president is going to have a crises on his hands regarding the financial meltdown - and the candidates better start addressing this.

We are at different places on this one. The nation as a whole has such a huge problem with education is impoverished areas and so much at stake, as a nation, in doing it well, that the federal government either has to address it or we all live with the consequences of large numbers of badly educated adults. A terrible formula for a world that increasingly depends on a highly educated global work force. Not to speak of the opportunities denied folk who grow up in impoverished areas.

I cannot see how Chicago can be held up as an example as students who transfer here from Chicago are among the worst.

Where is "here?" I don't know the Chicago system. I do know that some of the countries best proposals for education reform have recently come from folk who live in Chicago, among other places. And Daley gets some cred for education reform.

I do not care how impressive the proposal, I would prefer if fed govt does nothing more with education. The fed govt is so far in debt...

Hey Zuu - you've fallen into the Republican tiger trap: why do you think the Reps are always so eager to get rid of surpluses (and never to 'the People')?
