>>Allen, I lived as a child in lots of places....military family. I particularly liked CA, IL and Hawaii.

As an adult, I've only lived in Arkansas and Texas. If you're wondering about me culturally, I would say a blend of southern and midwest. Also I spent most of my adult life in small towns which is a cultural experience that transcends regions, i.e. is a culture in itself.<<

Kate -

Yes, after posting that I remembered that you were and Air Force brat like me.

I asked, because it seems to me that the community you live in may not be representative of a lot of this country.

I have personally known the children of very religious parents who were psychologically, physically, and sexually abused. I have also known children of religious parents who were wonderful people.

Most of my family is Mormon, on both sides. There are plenty of great people among them, and with the big families my grandparents came from, I have a lot of extended relatives who are Mormon. Most of them are wonderful and prosperous, and are loving parents to their children.

But not all. We also have mental illness, chronic depression, suicide, alcoholism, spousal and child abuse in our family.

I'm glad things are so idyllic among the Latter Day Saints where you live. Life is not necessarily so rosy everywhere.

- Allen
