For the record, I think Lane was hung up on the no evidence thing too.

Indeed, there is no evidence. And neither is there logic.

Among the church-going are some sub-sets. You have those who, as BP said, are serious and those, not so much. You also have two subsets with regard to salvation, those for whom salvation is a function of good behavior and those for whom it's a function of loving Jesus.

If the church-goer demographic consisted solely of those both serious in their faith and seeing salvation as a function of good behavior, then I think it might be reasonable to make the argument on logic rather than evidence that the church-going are probably generally better behaved than at least the non-church-going Christian demographic if not the seculars and other religionists. But that's not the case. There are two other demographics with unknown behavior variables included in the church-goers. Undercuts the logic approach.

As for evidence, there is none. The "observation" approach, in lieu of actual evidence, merely puts lipstick on a stereotype.

It was never anything more than what I said.....a PERSONAL observation based on working as a teacher myself, volunteering in the schools, and shepherding my own four children through the PUBLIC schools.

It didn't offend BP who says he is himself agnostic/atheist, so I'm still surprised it hit such a nerve with other very bright people on the thread.
