The reason Democrats have such a dismal record of winning Presidential elections is because they have an inherent problem with the way they select their nominee. So although the president is selected by the Electoral College winner take all system, the Democratic response is to come up with a completely different goofball system of apportionment guaranteed to nominate the most liberal candidate available. Contrast this with Republicans using the winner take all system in the nomination process with moderates consistently winning and the reason for the failure of Democratic nominees becomes all too apparent.

some members of Congress are worried that Barack Obama’s faltering campaign could hurt their chances of re-election.

They can see his campaign has failed to miss the iceberg and is going down like the Titanic.

Democratic fundraiser for Congressional candidates said some planned to distance themselves from Mr Obama and not attack Mr McCain.

Head for the lifeboats!
