Brumar: Which most Congressional Democrats voted to authorize."

koan: there is your problem right there. You always take a simplistic fact and never post the nuances or extenuating circumstances behind the fact!!

Yes most dems did vote to authorize the Iraq war. But they didn't want to. And that is important.

I will not make excuses for their cowardice, but I do understand it. The Republcians know that they way to beat the dems is to always appeal to the worst and most basal in Americans. The republicans are always setting ugly traps, like with gay bashing, racism, and especially pornographic patriotism e.g. flag pins (which Obama now wears).

During the vote on the very stupid and illegal Viet Nam war only two senators stood against it and both were voted out in the next elections.

This fact of the jingoistic proclivity of American's was not lost on political pros like Hillary. The dems were all sure if they voted against the Iraq war the Republican's would paint them into a subsequesnt losing election with that vote. So they voted how they thought Ameicans would want. 71% of Americans at the time were for the war.

Obama was against the Iraq war from day 1!
