It's a chess game and IF Obama had the courage to choose Hillary as his running mate, the race wouldn't be close -- virtually all of Clinton's supporters would be solid and on board now...Palin was only selected because the hard right wanted her, she was a great distraction and the opportunity existed as the Dems had failed to select a female VP.

Obama can still win BUT it will now be more difficult...he needs to start to fire on all 8 cylinders -- hit back hard and begin to put McPalin on defense, use Bill and Hillary in key swing states on heavy rotation, use simple words and short & focussed messages in his stump speeches, and perform really well in the upcoming debates.

IMHO the right hated Hillary as much as they love Palin... so I don't know if not chosing Hillary really cost Obama.

Also, remember there IS a large African American population in the south, so Obama could win a lot of those states.
