Not necessarily. The key wording is "abuse of earmarks". Earmarks aren't always pork, and don't always involve political abuse. If the McCain campaign had it's act together, they would have analyzed all of Palin's earmarks and developed preemptive talking points to defend her actions wrt McCain's position on earmarks.

Sometime, somewhere down the road, after the earmark simplicities McCain has forced on this campaign, there could, just perhaps, be a serious conversation about the goods and bads, the ins and outs, of earmarks and the earmark process.

I don't think it's the worst evil since Satan was banished from the angel crowd.
