I'm not sure I get your point. Should the Dems be more concerned about winning the White House than they are about selecting the person they think is best suited for the job? How would that demonstrate that they care about the future of the United States?

I can't speak for all Democrats, but I will say that I DO care about the future of this country. I happen to believe that Barack Obama was the best choice among the candidates who were running for the nomination this year.

You can make an argument, as Paul Begala does, that the Dems have only themselves to blame for losing several of the elections they've recently lost. But not only didn't you not make that case here, you simply made no case.
