By Michael Hampton

On Friday, May 4, an F5 tornado wiped the town of Greensburg, Kan., almost entirely off the map. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, along with the National Guard and local police from all over Kansas, then systematically kept out relief workers while they went house to house disarming the residents.

Defenseless On the Bayou
New Orleans gun confiscation is foolish and illegal
David B. Kopel | September 10, 2005

In the nearly two weeks since Hurricane Katrina, the government of New Orleans has devolved from its traditional status as an elective kleptocracy into something far more dangerous: an anarcho-tyranny that refuses to protect the public from criminals while preventing people from protecting themselves. At the orders of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, the New Orleans Police, the National Guard, the Oklahoma National Guard, and U.S. Marshals have begun breaking into homes at gunpoint, confiscating their lawfully-owned firearms, and evicting the residents. "No one is allowed to be armed. We're going to take all the guns," says P. Edwin Compass III, the superintendent of police.

MM;

If Bush said that, it's the dumbest thing he ever said

Considering the things Bush has said - do you know how dumb that statement of his becomes?

He wants to trifle with the Bill of Rights, specifically the Second Amendment.

Do you have any evidence for this? I may have missed it in the first round of arguments.

…The Constitution is under no danger, unless Obama gets in office. He wants to trifle with the Bill of Rights, specifically the Second Amendment. But we've been all through that, and I don't wish to resume the debate since you all are blind to the danger of such a possibility.

MM you haven’t been paying attention. An example: one of the last acts of the 2006 Republican Congress, via a clause inserted at the behest of the White House in the dead of night, gutted Posse Comitatus and granted expanded powers to the President under the Insurrection Act. One of those new powers was the Presidents ability to call up and command one State’s National Guard against the wishes of that State’s Governor, to fight in another State.

Google the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007.

And see here:

It took a majority Dem Congress to overturn that sneaky little power grab the next year.

The past 8 years have seen a consistent assault against the First, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Amendments. Gut those, and the 2nd is not worth a bucket of spit.
