He's registered as a Democrat, caucuses as a Democrat (giving them their majority in the Senate), tried to run for his seat as a Democrat (and then took it as an Independent not a Republican), votes with the Democrats a majority of the time, etc.

That outweighs endorsing a Republican for president.

That candidate agrees with Bush about almost everything, which puts him pretty far to the right.

Bush is hardly very far to the right. McCain is even less so.
