"You forgot to mention most existing leases don't have anything economically recoverable."

Then why are they leasing them?

You often don't know that they don't have anything economically recoverable until you explore for oil after you lease the area.

Also what's economically recoverable depends on the price. If the price goes up, then more oil is economically recoverable.

Then why are they leasing them?

They didn't know that when they leased the acreage.

Nobody is claiming we will "become 100% independent and green in 10 years?". So that's a strawman.

Okay, how many years?

Geothermal, wind, concentrated solar don't get 'massive' subsidies, no more than your beloved drilling.

Yes they do. Some of those are dependent on subsidies. Not true with oil and natural gas, most of whose subsidies simply allow quicker deduction of expenses than normal.

all in all the environmental movement has done much more good than harm.

Okay, if you look at the long haul. But lately ... I don't think so. You can only look at the environmental movements moves to block solar in southern CA.
