IMO, the dollar won't collapse because governments around the world own USDs, especially China. Also, export dependent countries like China wouldn't want their currency to appreciate too fast, too much. Therefore, other countries will probably buy US treasuries, funding America's debt which would in return stabilize the USD and allow for other currencies to keep pace with the dollar. This is where gold can shine because the world governments will be printing fiat currencies making each piece of paper worth less and perpetuate inflation.
