That seeming vestigial backbone in Congess now seems to be but their nervousness at their constiuents revolt. If it was for not flood of protest for this would have rubberstamped as writ already. Regards discrepency between public polls versus those protesting to congresspersons, we have found a shocking amount that can't name the first president of the U.S. or locate the U.S. on a Globe with no names. In otherwords, i would guess 80% of all those polled on the Paulson Plan don't understand the question. And i'd bet 35% probably walked away saying "Who is Paulson??" As Jefferson so rightly stated Democracy can exist ONLY where their is a highly informed public. a few Jefferson quotes that apply to NOW "I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country" Thomas Jefferson ---- "I sincerely believe that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale."Thomas jefferson __________________"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."
