Thank you for that update. I've really been quite worried at her not checking in and was really hoping she was just in one of those areas without power yet.

Oh, my! At least they are safe.

But, no power? How can they live and eat?

Time for everyone to get whole house generators!

Glad to hear she's doing ok. Good on you to send a note home with the secretary.

A great big thanks to you Patibob for posting about us.

We got power back on last evening. Still waiting for A/C to get started running. We had no damage to home here. Basement did flood but our A/C repair man was here most of the day last Saturday and got that all cleaned up. Didn't get the water heater on until Sunday morning as so much moister in it. I'll tell you cold showers or baths are not much fun even in warm weather. Our A/C repair man has been our angel in all this distress and has been watching after our needs promptly. Just got a call he is on his way to get the A/C up and running again. Such a great human being to know. He lives down by Galveston and told us his property received severe damage and here he is now taking care of our needs in a most professional way. Have also met some really good people during this time, while out eating meals.

We lost our bay front home to a fifteen foot tidal wave. Broke it from drill pipe foundation and surge moved it across the street into a vacant lot full of trees. Hope to post some pictures that our daughter and grandson took of it. Do have a good flood insurance policy and now just waiting for claims adjuster to call and start settlement process. Haven't really decided what we will do about it. We noticed five other homes that are missing but did not see where they landed. There is a lake behind there and if not for all the trees our home would have been in the lake. It is a pile of wood. Most all of the older homes are gone. The newer ones just lost their first floor, but their living areas are in tact and usable. The bulkhead we installed three years ago held well and we had no erosion at all. Our pier pilings are still up and the side brace didn't pull off, so just lost the top boards on it.

At our home here, we did have a huge tree uproot, but got that cut down the morning after the hurricane and they also cleaned up our whole yard and removed all the debris from our premises. Still have to have the stump grinder people come. Our neighbor lost nine trees in his yard and none fell on his house and the tree men were over there fairly early, then came to our house. Neighbors stayed in another part of town where they also own a condo by his office and just have been coming over to check their house and to see if power had been restored. It was a long eleven days here without power but we survived well. Had no problem finding a place to have our meals. Slowly but surely power all over the city is being restored. It has been a tremendous undertaking and so many neighbors have helped each other to clean up their areas. More than a million trees were blown down I heard on the radio. That is why our subdivision was without power so long. We have lots of really old huge oak trees in our area that fell. If we have a cold winter this year firewood will be plentiful. Most of the debris is being made into mulch and there are many millions of piles of that. We believe it will take months to get all the trees that fell cleared out and removed. Parks and cemeteries also lost many.

Got to run do some errands today so best get on my way. Still some areas where traffic lights not working so traveling around certain times of the day are difficult. Our intersection just got back up last evening too and there have been many accidents around the city by those not following the four way stop procedure. For the most part where I have driven people have been very polite and courteous.

Really missed all of you while sitting here like a bump on a long waiting for restored power. I will be busy taking care of matters concerning Ike and getting back to normal routines again, so will be in and out for the time being. Thanks to everyone for their good thoughts as they surely helped. Our family here also had little damage. Our youngest son did have a tree fall on his house but just the top branches that broke off his chimney flue and nothing serious. His back yard now looks twice its size without it.

We did get to celebrate my seven year survival of colon cancer the 19th before Ike hit. A lovely dinner with our closest friends here. The time has flown so quickly and I have finally began to roll some high scores again in bowling so that is encouraging that life is getting back to being really good again. Started a third day league this year getting more exercise to help build my body stronger and with that comes a much better disposition....<gg>
