Great to have you back safe and sound!!!! Great news about your family too. I know you had to be worried about them all. So sorry about your bay house, so many wonderful memories there I'm sure.

The traffic lights all across the Houston Metro Area are hit and miss. They have created a traffic nightmare during rush hour traffic. Most people are obeying the 4 way stop and are, as you said, being polite. The November projection to have all the lights up and working properly seems like it's far too long.

I had heard, through the greens superintendent at our course, that your course suffered large loss of trees. 400 is what the count is up to now for us but we still have plenty of trees left so it doesn't look like a links course.<g>

Naomi,

Thanks for reporting in. It was good to hear you made it through without huge damage. Folks here were concerned about the delay hearing from you, but without power, it's hard to get online.

Sorry about your Bay house. However, things can always be replaced.

Has your husband been going into his office this past week or so?

Welcome back, Naomi. The Houston GITs Trio is now present and accounted for. :)

It seems that each day brings another traffic signal or two back in operation or policemen directing traffic at the busier intersections with no power, so it's getting easier to get around. Also, the supermarkets are getting closer to business as usual each day. The Randall's I frequent had all its frozen food restocked yesterday, including several sections that it had reassigned for bags of ice.

Shortly after Ike, I saw an article in the Chronicle about the significant loss of trees at the beautiful Bayou Bend gardens. Also my church in the Memorial area suffered roof damage and water damage in the worship center that possibly will require as much as a year to repair. It seems to me that Ike was more destructive than Alicia 25 years ago.

Glad you survived and are back online.

Just now found your post...welcome back safe and sound.

We were worried about you!

Sorry about your beach house...but look at it this way, now you can get all new stuff just the way you'd like..Did you lose anything that is irreplaceable in it?

Hurricanes and their after math are horrible..it is hard to believe the damage that can be done..

So happy to hear you are all safe. That's the important part. I know what it is to go through a flood situation, and having to deal with the mess, but not had to experience the loss of a home or vacation cabin. Got close a few yrs back and we ended up buying one of these parkmodelsdirect.com although ours is more cabin like with stained cedar siding and a red metal roof. Iit is wonderful and very comfortable. And it didn't cost a fortune. But certainly like a second home which we love. The possibility of flooding is very real at our property, and we could lose it some day. But not having spent a lot, while we have it, we feel blessed.

Oak makes GREAT firewood.

And congrats on the anniversary and here's to your health.

P.S. this is our cabin:

;)
