Productivity is based on per hour production.

Another statistic which the Bush supporters cited often that would have been funny if it weren't so damned sad is worker productivity. Why does worker productivity rise during a down economy? Because people work longer hours for fear of losing their job.

right and later on in Bush's second term there was a piece in businessweek that for the first time seemed to explain to a lot of people what the effect of offshoring is on US productivity.

Basically if Applied Materials offshores engineering and only sales is here, so they go from 10K employees to only 2K, the resulting is a huge credit to *worker productivity* as if the 2K people left at the firm are actually doing the work. What a joke.

All it reminds me of is the old IBM PC business where IBM OEM'd out their entire business. A few years later MSFT and INTC decided they didn't need IBM anymore. Duh. Of course US business leaders like Carly Fiorina were signifincantly at fault here. But the government should have stood up and said to some of these companies who dumped all this IP on India that it was not ok. Instead these idiots in the WH acted like it was patriotic or something to offshore all this US intellectual property away.

Sirf technology was my favorite example of this. GPS tech invention was paid for by US taxpayers. This US company Sirf gets created that has a few dozen people and hundreds of staff in India. that should be discouraged and not allowed.
