Well, if we do nothing, and unemployment hits 10%, 20%, even the Depression level 30+%, those guys will not be hurting. In fact, in the resulting credit contraction, they'd probably do very well, buying up distressed assets at fire sale prices with the millions that Bush and his cronies gave them. Heck, if McCain is elected, they'll do all that AND get a lower tax rate. Time to address the crisis, and put away the punitive measures for now. After that, we can rebuild our regulatory system, just like FDR fixed it to lead us out of the Great Depression. This time, we don't want to let the problem get so big that it takes a decade to recover.
