U of Tx Southwestern Med School had a small study that showed that the Atkins diet took away the bodies natural protection for Kidney Stones in some individuals.

Interesting. Eating a lot of meat and eggs is supposed to be associated with kidney stones.

I've been eating low carb for most of a decade. I'm 65 and those were my first kidney stones. I had just rediscovered spinach after not eating it for decades because it depletes calcium so I'm suspicious about my spinach binge. I also have been intentionally dehydrated for several years. I take a diuretic, although a small dose, for blood pressure and I also have avoided drinking in the morning because I spend 2-3 hours in the pool every morning and don't want to have to get out to use the rest room and risk losing my lane (lane 3, that is <g>).

So, post kidney stones, I gave up the spinach and started drinking more water in the morning. Also have given up black tea.
