My sister lived in Glasgow for a year and she said it was just like everything she'd ever read except it is extremely liberal with women walking around half dressed and a casino and bar on every corner. After talking to her about it, it sounded like the people had pretty much given up and heavily relied on govt for everything. I was very surprised to learn that proceeds from gambling is the main source of revenue in Scotland.

I'm amazed their cities aren't more modern and the countryside hasn't changed for centuries.

The only place overseas I have any interest in visiting is Ireland. I remember my grandparents talking about it as well as my great-grandmother. They all have great memories of their country life.

My daughter is spending next semester in Brig, in the Swiss Alps.

I'm jealous. I think it'll be an incredible experience for her. She's just a 4 hour train ride from Florence, among other places. Has two friends who will be in Florence, so I suspect she'll be spending a fair amount of time in Italy.
