Off Topic - Yes you're in one of those situations where a hardware
reboot is required. If you're at all familiar with DOS, what scandisk
does is very similar to what chkdsk /f did, that is it finds any
loose files and links them back into the file structure with new
names (usually file0000.chk, file0001.chk, etc.) You might have to
take these files from time to time and put them in the trash bin
to recover disk space. It is the registry issue that could be
problematic in the long run. You're really going to have a few choice
words for MSFT if you have to deal with this one...

A quick version of scandisk runs by default on my micron hyper notebook following any termination of Win95 other than by start button.

I thought that was Win95 -- its Micron's little add?

Takes only a very short while even on my 5 gigs.
