I can believe anything these days. I wouldnt be surprised if markets were closed worldwide at least for monday while the G7 works on a global solution. Here its columbus day anyway and the banks are closed and that might set up a rather dangerous scenario for monday. Just a guess. I would go for a two day break. Cramer was talking 6000 last night and he may be right if preconditions for a real rally arent in place yet.
Anyway i am just rambling this morning. One more thing. Citibank took a major hit trying to help out the US in the Wachovia deal. Wells took advantage of a change in accounting rules to swoop in and buy Wachovia. Thus citi should be the first bank that gets a govt infusion of cash thru the purchase of stock. Citibank wont fail and as bad as things are there, i think their stock at these prices is a screaming buy for younger folks building a portfolio. I think i will do some switching on monday and put some money into citi.

Margin calls are likely a bigger factor than shorts in the recent downturn.
