TRACKING DOWN Mr. GOTO

My SmithBarney broker checked with the head of the research department here in NYC who said that SB does not follow Nikon. There is a Mr. Goto who is an analyst for SB in Japan. My broker said he will call him today to discuss this matter. When I get any news, I will post it.

The impression I have so far is that whatever he may have said is not an official SB position, and my broker couldn't understand how he could be making comments to Bloomberg if SB does not follow the company.

The date of this report is Oct 6th. I called the broker back to verify the info, and we talked a bit. He thought the analyst was probably accurate, and the inference from the report (according to the sb broker) was that Komatso's product was hands down superior. My guess is that Cymer is so far ahead of the competition as far as production goes, that a 21 unit order for the 1st quarter for Nikon isn't too big of a deal, but it is a development worth watching. No doubt cymer is spending R&D bucks trying to stay on top. I am long and feel pretty safe, but a bit more nervous. You know the famous rule "a trend is your friend", and cymi's has been down lately.
