We met with the claims adjuster yesterday at the bay house. All went fine except he was about three hours late. Called his office and they told us he was down there, but running late. We finally reached him on his cell phone and he told us he was at our site. We had just left there after deciding to have lunch so went back. He was much nicer than I thought we would encounter and agreed that we should have no trouble with getting recovery proceeds. Gave me some contents papers to fill out and now the real work begins with finding all the receipts I have kept lo these many years, but have to dig them out of my files. Thank God I am a paper saver so sure I have them all. I will also have to fill in age and replacement cost so that is a chore I am not looking forward to as also having to look up comparable items as they are now. I think this is the beginning of a huge migraine headache (which I have never had before) getting this accomplished....<gg>

Talked with two of our neighbors and they have been told they will get nothing. Seems their insurance is not covering anything on the bottom floors and that is where all their damage was.

Also spoke with friends of ours that have places in Bay View and Taylor Lake and one only had wind coverage because they are 21 feet above sea level and never flooded before. They were told it was not wind damage but flood damage so not covered. If you have never flooded before and winds were estimated to be 110 mph why is it not wind damage? Seems the insurance company is trying to get out of paying their claim. They got an estimate, it will cost forty to forty five thousand to restore their house. Their hot tub was pulled out of the ground and hit their pilings on house causing the front of the house to fall away. They are planning to rebuild. The other lost two refrigerators and two freezers and all their tools in a room on their first floor and they were also told they would get nothing. They live there permanently so will have to rebuild it and replace the lost items themselves. Not too happy about that.

We still have not decided whether to rebuild. If we decided to we would probably have to wait as long as six months to a year to even get a contractor to begin work. At our age that is an iffy situation and I am thinking it would be better to take the insurance money and go to another area that is not prone to hurricanes and purchase another home already constructed for us all to vacation or spend weekends there. Some place that is not too far for us all to travel. That surely appeals to me. We will retain our lot on the bay and when it is advantageous for us to do so sell it or leave it to our children. With all of the old timers down there I think they will leave and never come back again. Land prices for their lots should increase our value, I hope.
