Paul,
Could you please show me your calculations that lead you to the following conclusions?
"My "calculator" tells me that K6 availability WAS NOT AN ISSUE -
and that the yield impact WAS NOT THAT SIGNIFICANT. AMD's
real problem seems to be that their K6's are not selling well - especially inside the boxes of Tier 2/3 PC makers."
Thanks, Jim

Paul,

"[AMD] accounted for $47,000,000 in losses (Before Tax credits)"

According to LB report techstocks.com, you are off by $20M. With Intel, this $20M (whether gain or loss) is way down in the noise level, but with AMD, this sum is very significant.

Why is AMD receiving a tax credit of $30M anyway? And could you explain this joint venture return of $5.3M?

John.

Paul,

RE: their K6's are not selling well - especially inside the boxes of Tier 2/3 PC

I have seen a lot of ads in the LA Times from local shops that build and market their own systems where they'll give you a choice of CPU (which is then the only difference in the system). Some of these only show a difference in price of about $40 for a K6 vs an MMX Pentium with the same clock speed. Who in their right mind would consider a non Intel chip to save $40 on an entire system?

Gary
