It is such a pain when you lose your phone number..can you pay to keep your old number? That's what some friends of ours did while they rebuilt their house. They had the same number for 30 years, and would have lost it if they hadn't kept paying for the old number, even though they had no service.

Pattibob, have you thought of asking AT&T to put your home phone on winter disconnect or Ike damage for six months? We used to do that at our bay house and they let us keep our number. After cell phones came into being and we all had them, we canceled phone service to our bay house and relied totally on cell. They may not allow that now, with all the changes AT&T has made, but worth a try to ask to save your original number.
